about

Pearl is the brand new studio album by the Killjoys set for release in October 2011. The album is a celebration of a distinguished career, featuring performances by all the band’s members over its eventful history. The luxury of being able to draw from this amazing well of talent has allowed studio performances of Killjoys line ups that never existed and a beautiful depth of layering that is evocative of all aspects of the Killjoys’ unique sound. The result is a work of glimmering beauty ranging from shining guitar pop, through to delicate chamber soundscapes.

20 years ago The Killjoys won the ARIA Best Independent Release award for their debut album Ruby. This album launched the band on a acclaimed career of recording, releasing and touring records around the globe. Throughout that time the band have been favourites of the indie pop scene garnering glowing reviews for their shows and their lush recordings.

"Their trump card is Anna Burley's voice, to these ears she is a better singer than either Bjork or Eddie Reader" The Word - Ireland

"intoxicating sounds.... Sun drenched tales of- poignant love... truly scrumptious" Melody Maker UK

Ruby has been unavailable since the demise of distributors MDS 13 years ago and the band are celebrating the anniversary by remastering Ruby and packaging it together with their new studio album Pearl. Released on the bands new label Popboomerang Records, the new songs on “Pearl” evoke the emotions & soundscapes of ‘Ruby” and are embellished by past Killjoys members including Penny hewson, Caroline Schwerkolt, Michael Hohnen, Daniel Palamara and Jeremy Smith.

Th Optigan EP features two brand new songs as well as covers of the Little Murders' St. James Parade and Weddings Parties Anything's Houses. All performed by Craig and Anna using Jen Ando's Optigan, voice and a bit of trumpet. This is a collectors item not available in the shops.

About Ruby:

There was a particular style of U.K. indie music from the early to mid-'80s spearheaded by Everything But the Girl, Prefab Sprout, and pretty much the entire roster of Cherry Red Records that blended folk, bossa nova, jazz, and adult pop influences into an often sublime mixture of acoustic guitars, brushed drums, cocktail piano, and, often, female vocals and vibes. The 1990 full-length debut by Australia's the Killjoys sounds like they've listened to nothing but those albums for years . Singer Anna Burley has a cool, detached voice that sounds just right over Craig Pilkington's strummy acoustics and muted trumpet. Caroline Schwerkolt's dreamy vibes are the group's other main sonic signature, adding a lovely texture to nearly every song on the album. A fantastic debut, Ruby shows that the spirit of pop was alive and well between its early-'80s and mid-'90s heydays. All Music Guide
